Learn About The Health And Nutrition Benefits of Cacao Powder

Chocolate — cacao powder — has been around for a really long time. And for the women that lived before chocolate, what did they turn to when hormones surged each month?

Wheatgrass? Those poor women.

But I digress, chocolate is here for us now and it is amazing. Ask any woman and she knows what chocolate is and what it can do for a bad day.

And if you’re thinking it’s all in our heads. Read on, haters.

Science has our backs on this one! Chocolate IS good for you.

What you might not know, however, is that there is a difference between raw cacao powder and cocoa powder.

And if you don’t know the difference between the two, stay tuned. I’ll explain the difference to you.

Plus, I’ll show you how you can turn a few easy ingredients into your new night time mug of happiness. Any time of the month!

What Is Cacao Powder?

First, what is cacao powder? Simply stated, it is the purest form of chocolate. It comes from the Theobroma (Latin name) tree. Theobroma translates to “food of the gods.”

It’s rich in fiber, an excellent source of minerals, high in antioxidants, and increases endorphins.

See, ladies, our bodies are smart each month when we crave chocolate. What we really crave is a better mood and fewer hormonal outbursts! Enter cacao, the great mood stabilizer.

Studies also show cacao reduces blood pressure and improves insulin resistance.

Cacao powder is basically a total superfood!

So what is the difference between raw cacao powder to cocoa powder? Most notably, cocoa powder has been roasted. When heat is applied to raw cacao beans you lose a lot of its nutritional value. But probably a more important thing to remember is that cocoa powder is often paired with sugar to make many of the processed commercial chocolate products we purchase.

Cacao Powder Health Benefits

Benefit #1

Chocolate before bed!
Since cacao contains high levels of magnesium, which can be great for helping us relax, it makes a great before-bed indulgence to help calm the body.

Benefit #2

Clean energy for all!
Cacao powder is high in healthy fat. It’s essentially a pure fat that maintains our energy levels, stabilizes our blood sugars, and extends satiety. Yet, it's also a relaxant. The perfect pre-meditation supplement.

Benefit #3
Increase levels of endorphins
Cacao powder contains alkaloids that interact with our neurotransmitters in our brains and help us feel good. So it's not a myth that eating chocolate will make you feel better. It’s proven by science. You're welcome, lady. Eat that chocolate with confidence!
